A REAPER AT THE GATES

30809786

Beyond the Empire and within it, the threat of war looms ever larger.

The Blood Shrike, Helene Aquilla, is assailed on all sides. Emperor Marcus, haunted by his past, grows increasingly unstable, while the Commandant capitalizes on his madness to bolster her own power. As Helene searches for a way to hold back the approaching darkness, her sister’s life and the lives of all those in the Empire hang in the balance.

Far to the east, Laia of Serra knows the fate of the world lies not in the machinations of the Martial court, but in stopping the Nightbringer. But while hunting for a way to bring him down, Laia faces unexpected threats from those she hoped would aid her, and is drawn into a battle she never thought she’d have to fight.

And in the land between the living and the dead, Elias Veturius has given up his freedom to serve as Soul Catcher. But in doing so, he has vowed himself to an ancient power that will stop at nothing to ensure Elias’s devotion—even at the cost of his humanity.

WHY I NEED THIS BOOK

YOU GUYS. WE ARE FINALLY GETTING  BOOK 3 AND I COULDN’T BE HAPPIER!!!! I loved An Ember in the Ashes and A Torch Against the Night so I can’t wait to see where Sabaa  takes the story, especially after that ending. I also need more of Elias and Laia in my life so A Reaper at the Gates is a must!

P.S. I’m loving the new cover! How about you?

  1. I seem to be in the minority since I don’t love these new covers (idk I think I just have a thing against people on covers) and I wasn’t a huge fan of A Torch Against the Night… I thought an Ember in the Ashes was great but idk I wasn’t a huge fan of the romance in book 2. I might still pick this one up from the library when it comes out tho! Hopefully I like it more than book 2

    1. I wasn’t a fan at first but they grew on me over time. I still prefer the old covers to just because they are aesthetically more pleasing. For me, Torch wasn’t as great as Ember but I still liked it a good amount. The romance wasn’t doing it for me either but hopefully Reaper will be better! I hope you love it if you decide to pick it up!!

  2. I don’t love people on the cover but I understand its importance here because we rarely see brown women or POC in general on covers. I’ve been somewhat interested in reading these but the series keeps getting longer and I often lose interest with series…

    1. I totally agree with you in regards to covers. I personally prefer the original covers because they are more aesthetically pleasing (for me) but these new covers were needed. I believe it’s going to be a quartet so at least we have a set number lol. If you do decide to pick it up, I hope you enjoy it!!
